Our main focus this Autumn term will be helping the children settle into their new nursery environment. We will encourage new friendships, while introducing the children to our school rules and daily routines. We will be sharing many stories about starting school, thinking carefully about how we can develop our independence and resilience when faced with new challenges.

This term, our learning will be centred around the important concepts of identity and belonging. Through stories, discussions, and play, children will be encouraged to talk about themselves, their families, and the people who are special to them. We will explore feelings, celebrate what makes each of us unique, and think about how we are all connected to one another. As part of this journey, we will also learn about different festivals and celebrations, giving children the chance to share their own family traditions and experiences, and to appreciate the diverse ways that people come together as communities.

Phonics and Early Writing

This term, we will continue to build strong foundations in phonics through engaging Phase 1 ‘Letters and  Sounds’ activities, focusing on alliteration and oral blending. Children will also be introduced to one new sound each week, using rhymes, alliteration, and fun games to support their learning in a playful way. Alongside this, we will be strengthening fine motor control through daily Dough Gym sessions and plenty of Funky Fingers activities, giving children the skills they need to prepare for writing as the year progresses.

Our Core Books and Songs

In mathematics, we will practise recognising numbers, matching number to quantity and work on developing our 1:1 correspondence, using Numicon and a five frame to aid visual understanding. We will be looking for patterns in our environment and then create our own repeating patterns using a variety of resources.

We will continue to develop our social skills; working together as a team, listening to each other and sharing. This will be done through lots of fun activities, including Forest school-based tasks during our 'Welly Walks' and through our school PSHE scheme, Jigsaw.

Finally, a big thank you for all your support  and we look forward to a fun, busy term.
