Year 6 Parents Information Evening Presentation
spring term 2025
Following Captain Scott on his adventures exploring Antarctica, we will be exploiting many exciting opportunities to write around this theme in English. As we slowly reveal his story together, please support us in banning Google. In keeping with our polar experiences, we will enjoy painting in the style of Nerys Levy in art. New shared reading books will also begin across our four new groups, transporting us from one world to another. In maths, pupils will continue to develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills. Algebra, decimals and their relationship with fractions and percentages, area, perimeter, volume and statistics are the topics of study throughout the spring. Our science units will begin with ‘Evolution and Adaptation', followed by ‘Heart and Lungs’, which ties in neatly with our DPC unit 'Out of Africa'. Through this, we will learn how life on Earth evolved and how closely linked we are to other species. We will be thinking about how animals have adapted to survive in different environments and finding out who Charles Darwin was. Finally, further sporting events will take place, allowing our pupils to compete against other schools across the borough. A team will begin by representing Dorridge at the Sports Hall Athletics Roadshow; all pupils will be given training for this and have their skills measured in a range of disciplines
