spring term 2025
Happy New Year and welcome back from all of us in Nursery. This term our learning will focus around ’The Natural World’. Each fortnight we will be looking at a new topic starting with Nursery Rhymes and then moving onto books that include Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. In phonics, we will be continuing with our Phase 1 ‘Letters and Sounds’ activities, focusing on alliteration and oral blending. We will also begin to introduce one sound a week using rhymes, alliteration and lots of fun activities and games for the children to embed their learning. We will continue to develop our understanding of rhyme alongside this. The children will begin to practise name writing and letter formation through various mark making activities while improving their dexterity and fine motor skills with daily Dough Gym sessions. In mathematics we will practise recognising numbers, matching number to quantity and work on developing our 1:1 correspondence, using Numicon and a five frame to aid visual understanding. We will be looking for patterns in our environment and then create our own repeating patterns using a variety of resources. We will continue to develop our social skills; working together as a team, listening to each other and sharing. This will be done through lots of fun activities including Forest school-based tasks during our welly walks and through our school PSHE scheme, Jigsaw. This term we will begin our weekly FootieBugs sessions, an exciting PE program combining traditional football skills and storytelling adventures to enhance our physical development. Finally, a big thank you for all your support last term and we look forward to another fun, busy term.
