Together we play, learn and succeed

'Dorridge Primary SChooL'

Understanding of the world

Children are naturally curious about the world around them and within EYFS at Dorridge Primary School we encourage children to explore, investigate and ask questions through meaningful first-hand experiences. Opportunities for discovery and exploration are carefully woven throughout both the indoor and outdoor environment, helping children develop a deeper understanding of people, places, nature and the wider world.

Children learn about seasonal change, the natural world, different cultures, celebrations and family traditions through stories, discussions, play and practical experiences. They are encouraged to notice similarities and differences, talk about their own experiences and develop respect and understanding for others and the world around them.

In Nursery, children begin exploring their immediate environment and developing curiosity through sensory play, exploration and simple investigations. As children move into Reception, they build upon these experiences through more detailed observations, discussions, investigations and opportunities to explore change, technology and the wider community.

Technology is also thoughtfully integrated throughout the provision, helping children begin to use simple equipment and digital tools with confidence and purpose. Through exploration, questioning and hands-on experiences, children develop the confidence, curiosity and language needed to become active and engaged learners.
