Welcome to Year 4

Welcome to Year 4 2024-2025

summer term 2026

Year 4 are looking forward to a very exciting Summer Term!

In English, we will begin the term by looking at Anthony Browne’s story Zoo. We will be exploring the pros and cons of zoos, with the children taking part in class debates. This will lead into an assessed persuasive writing piece.
Our next class text will be The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Rauf, a thought-provoking book that we are sure the children will really enjoy.

In shared reading, we will continue to carousel our three texts: 4D will be reading Varjak Paw,  4P will read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, 4S will read Charlotte’s Web.
We will continue to follow the White Rose Curriculum in maths, beginning the term with decimals, which builds on our previous learning in fractions. We will then move on to units covering money, time and shape. To support the children in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), which will take place between Monday 1st June and Friday 12th June, we will be practising times tables daily for 10 minutes. We will also be using the technology the children are familiar with to help improve their speed and confidence ahead of the check.
In Geography, we will be studying a new unit titled “What are rivers and how are they used?”, where the children will explore river features and their importance.
Our History topic this term will be the Mayan Civilisation, where the children will learn about their achievements, culture and way of life.
In Science, we will be starting our unit on Sound before moving on to States of Matter.

Our guitar tuition will continue on Fridays. The children have been thoroughly enjoying these sessions and are looking forward to continuing their progress. Please do remember to send your child in with their guitars.

Our Chance to Shine cricket lessons have now been completed; however, the children will have the opportunity to take part in a local school cricket tournament later in the Summer Term.
