Physical Development

At Dorridge Primary School, we recognise the importance of physical development in supporting children’s overall learning, confidence and wellbeing. Children develop their gross motor skills through PE lessons, outdoor learning, climbing, balancing, running and active play opportunities both indoors and outdoors.

Alongside this, children develop the fine motor skills needed for successful writing through carefully planned activities that strengthen hand muscles, coordination and control. Opportunities for threading, cutting, mark making, painting and using tools are woven throughout the environment to support children’s physical development every day.

We encourage children to develop independence, resilience and confidence as they learn to manage their own personal needs, take risks safely and become increasingly coordinated and in control of their movements.
