School Council
Our Aim
Our aim is to improve and develop our school and community to be the best we can be. We want to make our school a place where each child has a voice and their opinions and suggestions are heard.
What is School Council?
Our School Council works to make improvements to the school and the way we do things at Dorridge. We consider and reflect on things that could be better and discuss and agree our actions. Everyone gets a chance to speak and when we finish our discussions we vote on the best ideas and begin working on bringing about positive change. We also run whole school competitions and try to make links with other organisations in our local area.
Who are the School Councillors?
Every year we run an election campaign to vote for a new representative for each class from Year 1 – Year 6. These elections take place in September and then we change the school councillor in February through another election campaign and vote. Each councillor has a School Council book where they write down any ideas and suggestions from their class. Any suggestions are then discussed at the next School Council meeting. Each councillor will also feedback to their class about what is going on in the council meetings and pass on any messages and report on school developments on Class Dojo or the school Facebook page
When do we meet?
We usually meet weekly all together with Mrs Scott, who is the teacher member of School Council, who works alongside the children.
Competitions
Each term we run a whole school competition. Some examples of these are, decorate your own egg Easter competition, a Christmas baking competition and a Summer writing competition. School Councillors are in charge of selecting winners from each year Key Stage and also decide on the prizes too.
