Rule of Law

The importance of laws is consistently reinforced throughout the school day. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken. Class rules are clearly displayed in every classroom and set out expected behaviour across the school. Each class Nursery to Year 6 has an anti-bullying charter which the children and teacher sign up to, the charter is displayed within each classroom.

We are proud to be a KiVa school. KiVa is an innovative school-based anti-bullying program which has been developed using cutting-edge research on bullying and its mechanisms. Pupils are encouraged to follow the KiVa approach integral to the behaviour policy. KiVa leads are visible on the Key Stage playgrounds as reminder of the rules and for pupils to seek support to resolve any disputes.

Circle time is taught through the Jigsaw curriculum in which Fundamental British Values are interwoven, it used as an opportunity to discuss difficult situations that benefit from whole class discussion through a variety of half termly themes.

Keeping safe when using the internet is regularly discussed with children in computing lessons and in assemblies. All members of the school community sign our Acceptable Use Policy and pledge to use the internet safely.

The school has very good links with authorities such as the Police who regularly visit and help to reinforce the Rule of Law and how to keep safe. We are part of the West Midlands Police PCSO scheme where a group of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils learn laws to help keep our community safe.

Our school Police Liaison Officer is PSCO H.Thompson.
