Year 6 Home Learning

We have included a number of links to recognised websites below to help you find suitable material. These links were good when we last checked them and we will be regularly checking that they do not become unsuitable. However, please remember that external sites are not under our control and their content may change without warning. We provide these links as a service and cannot guarantee their continued suitability.

*Please note that all prior home learning can still be accessed by scrolling to the bottom of this page.

13th July to 24th July

So we have reached the last week of term! We are so proud of you for working through this unprecedented year. You have all shown such interest and resilience to complete the home learning. Well done everyone.

We encourage you to continue working through the transition material provided by your secondary schools on their websites.

This week we have provided one last task which again uses your maths and English skills.

Theme Park Project

Each day consists of a powerpoint explaining the task and some sheets to help you plan and budget for your theme park.

Monday tasks

Tuesday tasks

Wednesday tasks

Thursday tasks

Friday tasks

There is quite a lot of work in the links above, the aim is to design your theme park and then advertise it. You can choose any way to promote your park- you may record a video or make a poster on your computer.

Think about designing a container for food and drink for the visitors to your park.

Overall enjoy your last week of year 6, think back through all your successes at Dorridge and remember we are very proud of you and wish you the best of luck next year!

6th July

We're into our last fortnight! We are aware Arden have asked you to complete transition work on their website. Access to this work is unavailable until Monday 6th July, therefore we have provided a project for you to complete at home alongside the tasks set by Arden. If it appears that the work provided by Arden is substantial and time consuming it is important to prioritise the activities they have set- we will know more on Monday.

Plan a Summer Music Festival Project!

We want you to plan a music festival, this will require you to use all of your maths, English and design skills.

Each day consists of a powerpoint which asks you to complete a task to work towards designing your own music festival, including planning your site, deciding which bands play and working out the cost of tickets.

Have fun with this- you can switch the names of the artists for your own choices of musicians- then you can have your favourite band headlining.

We challenge you to design your own teepee- for visitors to your festival to enjoy! The link below talks you through how to make a teepee- this requires wool and sticks or skewers. Or if you would prefer you can use the Twinkl template and design your own.

Our IPC unit is 'What a Wonderful World'. If we were in school, we would have been looking at the structure of the Earth.

What is underneath our feet? The Earth is approx. 3900 miles (6300 km) from surface to centre – but what is it made up of?

Research by creating a model, or diagram showing the different layers of the Earth: crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. Your project should be annotated, to provide key information on each layer (temperature, gases, metals, minerals, and so on).

Maths mystery challenge Week 2

 Reading

Our objective was to complete Kensuke's Kingdom and answer associated daily questions before the Easter break, we appreciate some families may be working at a different pace, therefore we have left the resources below for you to continue to access.

Our intention is now for pupils to complete stand alone extracts on a daily basis.

Week 1 Reading Comprehension tasks

Week 2 Reading Comprehension tasks

There are five extracts per week, which are differentiated 3 ways, with the answers provided as the final page of each document.

Spelling and Grammar

We are providing word lists for each week. Our suggested approach would be to go through the powerpoint first,  complete the word search and practise with the 'Look cover write check' activity.

IPC

Our IPC unit is 'What a Wonderful World'. If we were in school, we would have been looking at different biomes. Please can you choose a biome from the link below and create a biome on the website.

Build a Biome

Then complete either a diorama, a poster or video your own documentary in the style of David Attenborough from one of the biomes on the website- Tundra, Taiga, Deciduous Forest, Tropical Rainforest, Grass Savannah or Desert.

If you have finished your poster, diorama or documentary and have time, please present it to someone in your family.

Before Easter Home Learning

Maths

Each set is yet to complete their 'Statistics' block unit. Please refer to the White Rose link below which provides a backbone scheme of work and questions. Allow one days work per 'Small step NC objective' there are 8 steps for 8 separate days. Always begin with 'Varied Fluency' questions and for the following 'Reasoning and Problem Solving' page be sure to cover up the answers!

 White Rose Maths Statistics

At the end of the unit, allow a further day to assess your child's learning using the end of block test below.

White Rose Statistics End of Block Questions

White Rose Statistics End of Black Answers

It is important to note, this is not the scheme of work all classes have been using. If White Rose proves too challenging for your child, or if you would like additional work, please focus your time on the 'Statistics' section of Mathletics or use other revision materials.

 Mathletics

Along side the statistics work, it is important pupils keep their arithmetic knowledge sharp. Below is a zip file with 20 half tests that last 15 minutes and 10 full tests that last 30 minutes, similar to the SATs. Encourage your child to complete one of these a day (careful, the answers are on the last page).

Reading

We have decided to base our reading around the book 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. We have sent the book home with as many children as possible; however, it is also scanned below. Aim to read a chapter a day with your child and complete the associated comprehension questions also attached below. There are two documents to choose your level of questioning from.
